Good and bad signs are an interesting part of folklore, oral folk art. But men, too, did not always and not all signs were dismissive: what if it really "works"?
One of these well-established prejudices says: “Do not wash dishes at a party.” Many women remember that their grandmothers taught them in their youth: not my dishes in a strange house and do not let them wash the guests in their own.
Which nations have this sign?
This sign is common among the Slavic peoples. In other cultures, washing dishes at a party does not attach much importance. But they and others have enough of their own superstitions.
Why is there such a popular belief? Of course, it is impossible to get an exact and unambiguous answer to this question. But there are interesting hypotheses and assumptions. Here they are.
Utensils as the keeper of the energy of their owners
Perhaps people unknowingly believed that the dishes from which they eat and drink accumulate energy at home and its owners. And the intervention of an outsider in this prevailing aura violates its balance. After all, it is not known what is in the head and soul of the guest. Not the fact that it is charged with positive energy. Therefore, such assistance in the kitchen can imbalance the established life of the house and family.
In the old days, many families, especially Old Believers, generally kept special separate dishes for guests, which they themselves never used. How do we use, for example, only our toothbrush or comb.
Tactlessness in relation to the hostess
The kitchen is the sole possession of the mistress of the house. Cleanliness and harmony here is her duty, and only she knows in what places and in what order everything should be located. If a guest starts washing dishes in someone else's territory, then she thereby indirectly begins to “host” on it. And also (again, indirectly, of course) hints that the mistress of the house is not doing very well with her duties.
Alien, disposing of in the kitchen - resentment for brownie
It may well be that this sign is associated with the ancient belief in brownies. The brownies were not necessarily imagined as shown in a wonderful children's fairy tale about Kuzka and Nathana - in the form of a little man living behind a stove. In popular beliefs, this could be the disembodied spirit of the house, which, however, directly influenced both its internal aura and the owners themselves.
Brownie is very conservative. He loves order in the kitchen and does not like change. Therefore, the intrusion of a stranger into this territory can anger the spirit. And this threatens the owners with conflicts with each other and domestic troubles; unexpected health problems and nightmares.
Interesting fact: if the mistress of the house “did not follow” the guest and he nevertheless proceeded to washing the dishes, then the matter can be corrected by paying him money for this unsolicited help. Give a symbolic coin - then the sign will not work.
Water is an energy entity that conveys both positive and negative
It is no accident that since ancient times, many rituals - both pagan and in all major religions - are associated with water. She is a sacred medium of information.
There was no water supply before, the dishes were washed in a basin. Therefore, it turned out that the hostess would have to touch the same water as the guest or guest. Through this water, an involuntary or deliberate evil eye, some kind of emotional message can be transmitted. Well, if it will be positive. What if, on the contrary, negative? Then, an unmarried girl is faced with problems in finding a marriage, and a married woman - discord and quarrels in the family, financial difficulties.
Interesting fact: omen only applies to guests who are not in a relationship with the owners. It does not apply to relatives. For example, if you are visiting your parents' house, their dishes are not only possible, but also necessary. If relatives, even distant ones, arrived, then they too can be safely entrusted with this help with the housework. Unpleasant consequences are not threatened, according to popular beliefs.
To believe or not to believe in this ancient sign is everyone's personal business. Nowadays, the question of whether it "works" or not, can generally be considered a closed dishwasher. If it is, then there is no need to offer help in washing dishes, and you will not have to refuse such help either. Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers could not even dream of such comfort!
